Our Story

STEPS was born while traveling the globe. The absolute best memory of the 10-day trip was created while accidentally veering off the main trail of the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal, to a beautiful lookout point.

After completing the circuit, we were left with a memory but no way of sharing it with the rest of the world. We lacked a platform where we could share our knowledge and experience with others.

The alternatives of sharing in forums or blogs was possible, however, we felt it would easily vanish in the unlimited information available in the traditional search engines regarding the circuit.

After discussing our problem with others, we concluded that there are tons of useful information that is inaccessible for many people. Despite that this information is known to some, and they are interested in sharing it with others, they can’t do it easily.

The gaps of information are infinite: Where is the coolest street art and graffiti? Which restaurants are fully accessible for disabled persons? Where are the most breathtaking look out points? Which bars sell a specific boutique beer? Where are the nearest recycle bins?

Fast-forward four years: We are now a team of six, working on a solution to this one problem. Some of us quit our jobs to solve this full time, some of us are working on it in our spare hours, yet we are all dedicated to solving this problem and making the world a better place.

FAQ

STEPS is a community of people interested in contributing and sharing information on one map. We are creating a free online map that is developed and edited by its users.

We believe that this dream can only be achieved by uniting people under one roof, where everyone contributes their unique knowledge to the other’s use.

The app is a map where users can add and edit places (STEPs) based on their interests and knowledge. Any user can easily add and edit a STEP, and give it a title, description, upload images, and also add hashtags, making it easy for others to find. Adding a STEP requires the user to be in the same position, editing is possible anywhere.

The app aims to be efficient, accessible and simple so anyone can easily use it.

  1. The map is 100% created by the community, for the community.
  2. Everyone is welcome to STEPS, while some other apps focus on specific niches.

We believe in people and in their goodwill to contribute to a better world and to the community. Wikipedia is a good example that shows that with a common effort it is possible to create real value for the world and make it a better place.

Just a smartphone with GPS and a data plan. We support both iPhone and Android. Logging in is possible with Google or Facebook accounts.
